MP supports King Harold Day
Eleanor Laing joined Chairman of the King Harold Day Society, Tricia Gurnett, on the medieval procession at Waltham Abbey on Saturday 16th October.
King Harold Day in the gardens of Waltham Abbey commemorates the buriel of King Harold at the Abbey after he was killed at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Flowers were laid on his grave - notably on behalf of the town of Stamford Bridge where, of course, King Harold had a great victory a few months before the Battle of Hastings.
Many local organisations and charities were present and children could dress up in medieval costume, try medieval games and even sample apple and pear juice made by traditional methods from Waltham Abbey's own apples and pears.
Eleanor said:
"I congratulate the organisers on the success of this great event. What better way to bring history alive for our children. It was a very enjoyable day."
