Honouring Sir Winston
Mrs Laing’s Association celebrated the constituency’s connection with Winston Churchill at a dinner at which their Guest of Honour was Churchill’s grandson, The Honourable Nicholas Soames MP.
Mr Soames gave a fascinating speech about his grandfather, describing not only his political and military successes but also Sir Winston’s dedication to his literary works, to his painting and his bricklaying.
The dinner was held in a marquee in the gardens of Mr and Mrs John Padfield and was attended by nearly 200 people from all over Essex.
Epping Forest MP, Eleanor Laing, said “I thought it was time we had a formal celebration of our connection with Winston Churchill who was, of course, MP for our area for most of his time in parliament.
I was delighted to be able to introduce Nicholas Soames to several current members of my Association who were Party members when Winston Churchill was Member of Parliament.”
