The ninth annual Epping Forest Schools Parliamentary Debating Competition took place on Friday 21st November at Davenant Foundation School and competing pupils came from West Hatch High School, Chigwell School, Davenant Foundation School, St. John’s High School and Debden Park High School.

Speaking out against a report raising the possibility of compulsory purchase of land for gypsy or travellers sites, Eleanor Laing asked:
"What is the point of all our work to protect people's freedom and to make them feel secure in their own homes when a Labour Government can revert to the worst excesses of Communist dictatorships and compulsorily purchase bits of land next to people's homes?"

On the 80th anniversary of men and women receiving equality at the ballot box Epping Forest MP, Eleanor Laing, joined activists outside parliament, in the call for more women in parliament.
Women currently make up just 20% of the House of Commons today, a figure virtually unchanged in a generation.
This comes as new research from the Electoral Reform Society has revealed that despite efforts by all parties not enough has been done to ensure that an increase in women MPs at the next General Election is even a possibility.
