Civic Offices Redevelopment

1st June 2020

Major development plans for Epping, with the refurbishment of the Civic Offices and housing plans for the Condor building, mean a "very bright and hopeful future for the town", Epping Forest MP Dame Eleanor Laing has said.

The cabinet on Conservative-controlled Epping Forest District Council tonight awarded a £5.6m contract for the refurbishment of the Civic Offices - a move which the Conservatives say will trigger a return of some £23m over five years.

The redevelopment will see the council providing better access to public services as well as bringing investment and jobs into the local area.

Epping Forest Conservatives add that the work will also make the building more sustainable, increasing its lifespan and significantly decreasing maintenance costs.

The project will see the creation of a 'Community Hub' with all district council staff and services brought together in one building along with various local charities, organisations and businesses.

Rent from the new homes built on the site of the Condor Building will be put back into protecting front-line services whilst keeping taxes down.

The town is also set to see the redevelopment of the St John's Road site with a cinema, and a new leisure facility with swimming pool.

Dame Eleanor said: "I am delighted that Epping Forest District Council has taken this decision and I know how hard the council leader, Chris Whitbread, has worked for many, many years to bring together this visionary plan for Epping.

"It will launch a very bright and hopeful future for the town. It is also economically brilliant and will create enormous opportunities for business, for investment, and for leisure for the whole community."

Dame Eleanor added: "This investment will benefit not only the town of Epping but the whole of the Epping Forest district."
