Green Flag Award

6th August 2018

Epping Forest MP Dame Eleanor Laing has congratulated City of London Corporation staff and volunteers for their ongoing work to maintain Epping Forest after it was again awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award.

The awards recognise the best open spaces in the UK and are awarded by a panel of expert judges for their top facilities and excellent use of green space.

Epping Forest has also received a Green Heritage Award in recognition of its historic features and the high standard of conservation.

It has continued to receive both the Green Flag Award and Green Heritage Award since 2003.

Epping Forest MP Dame Eleanor Laing said: "I am delighted that Epping Forest has again been recognised in such a way and I would like to congratulate everyone involved  with the forest - staff and volunteers - who work so hard to maintain Epping Forest and make it such a special place for visitors and people who use it and drive through it every day."

The Green Flag Awards Scheme is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

The international award, now into its 22nd year, is a sign to the public that a green space is managed to the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

Awards are given on an annual basis.

Philip Woodhouse, chairman of the City Corporation’s Epping Forest and City Commons Committee, said: “This award demonstrates our commitment to conserving and protecting Epping Forest for future generations.

“The forest is an important part of the local community and to the many visitors we receive every year.

“This could not be achieved without the passion and dedication of staff and volunteers who help to manage the forest."
