MP unveils school's tree sculpture

13th July 2019

A tree sculpture in the grounds of Alderton Infant School in Loughton has been officially unveiled by Epping Forest MP Dame Eleanor Laing.

The Growth Mindset sculpture has been created by children, staff and families who have worked on the project for over a year.

The resulting 'sculpture tree' was recently installed at the Alderton Hall Lane school.

Headteacher Sharon Dalby said: "We are immensely proud of our school,  its caring ethos, positive approach and keen focus on delivering a broad and balanced curriculum, including music and the arts.

"Together with a theatre group, a local ceramic artist (Martin Chesterman) and metal work artist (Heather Downing) the children were inspired to create a very special outdoor tree.

"Each branch represents one of the Growth Mindset values we hold dear: Resilience, Aspiration Curiosity, Independence, Perseverance and Engagement.

"These core values now underpin everything we do in school.

Dame Eleanor said: "I was delighted to be invited to officially unveil the Growth Mindset sculpture. It is a wonderful project and I congratulate everyone who has been involved in bringing it to fruition.

"I am sure that it will be a constant reminder to everyone at Alderton Infant School of the core values which are at the heart of everything that the school does.

"I particularly enjoyed talking to the children and answering their very incisive questions.  They are clearly benefiting from a great start to their education.”
